Karlobag

Useful information

Karlobag

Karlobag is a small town under Velebit, through which runs the famous coastal Adriatic highway, which leads from Rijeka to Dubrovnik. It is located in the Lika-Senj County, and lies opposite the island of Pag, with which it shares the two-kilometer-wide Velebit Channel. The municipality has only about a thousand inhabitants, more than half of whom live in the town of Karlobag.

16 km from the town of Karlobag is the ferry port of Prizna, which connects the mainland with the island of Pag. (line – Prizna – Žigljen).

Karlobag, which has a port with three piers and a breakwater, is a rather dangerous port when the bora blows, which can reach hurricane force here.

The sea riviera of Karlobag is as long as 42 kilometers.

It is interesting to note that the Turks burned the settlement after conquering it in 1525. The city was rebuilt in 1579 by Archduke Karlo, and since then the city has been called Karlobag.
